# CMDB Discovery Mapping

On the CMDB Discovery Mapping page, the Variance found between CMDB and Discovery is displayed. The Discovery data should be updated in CMDB. The Variance data from Discovery can be updated to CMDB either automatically or manually.

> [!NOTE]
> Example
>
> If the Laptop RAM size for a laptop LAP2456 in CMDB is 2 GB, however, in the Discovery the Laptop RAM size for the laptop shows 4 GB, the user can update the discovered RAM size in CMDB by selecting an appropriate Variance Type on the CMDB DISCOVERY MAPPING page. If the Variance Type is set as Automatic, the Variance is automatically updated in CMDB by a job. In this example, the RAM Size is updated to 4 GB as per the Discover data. If the Variance Type is set as Show Variance, the Variance is displayed on the Discovery page and the Variance has to be baselined by the user (see: Hardware Variance and Software Variance in the SUMMITAI Asset Management).

To configure CMDB Discovery Mapping, perform the following steps:

1. Navigate to **CMDB** > **Import** > **Configuration** > **CMDB Discovery Mapping**. The CMDB Discovery Mapping page is displayed. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/image-EUA83ZK8.png)
