# Import Configuration Items

You can create multiple CIs by the Importing the values from a spreadsheet.

> [!NOTE]
> #### **Excel Import Cell Limit**
>
> For **Upload Configuration Items**, **Upload Services**, and **Import Users** using Excel, a **maximum of 40,000 cells** is supported per import.
>
> - The cell count is calculated as **Number of Rows × Number of Columns**.
> - If the total cell count **exceeds 40,000**, the import **will fail**.
> - An error message is displayed prompting you to upload the records **within the allowed 40,000‑cell limit**.
>
> **Example:** If an Excel file contains **40 columns**, it can include a maximum of **1,000 rows** (40 × 1,000 = 40,000 cells). If the number of rows exceeds this limit, the import will fail.

To create multiple CIs, perform the following steps:

1. Navigate to **CMDB > Import > Import Configuration Items**. The **IMPORT CONFIGURATION ITEMS** page is displayed. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/ici.png) Figure: IMPORT CONFIGURATION ITEMS page
2. Select the required **Department** from the Department drop-down list.
3. Select **Add** from the **Import Type** drop-down list.

**Update Import Type**

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> During the bulk update:
>
> - If the **Unique Field** value is the Configuration Item ID and the CI ID does not exist in the CMDB, then the record gets discarded.
> - If the **Unique Field** value is the Device/Host Name or Serial No and there exists the same Device/Host Name or Serial No for the other CI ID in CMDB, then the record gets discarded.
> - Select the required **Unique Field** name in the **Unique Field** drop-down list that contains the values IP Address, Configuration Item ID, Device/Host Name, or Serial No.

1. For the **Classification** field, click the **SEARCH** icon and select the Classification from the list.
2. Click **DOWNLOAD CMDB IMPORT TEMPLATE** icon on the **ACTIONS** panel. A Microsoft Excel sheet is downloaded to your system. The Excel sheet has specific name and columns. The name and configuration of the spreadsheet depends on the option selected in the **Classification** field. Update the required data in the spreadsheet and save it.
