Instead of creating separate workflow branches for similar tasks, the component processes each item sequentially within a single loop, simplifying workflow design and improving maintainability. Use the **Loop on Items** component when the same workflow actions must be performed for multiple records. The component automatically iterates through each item in the collection and executes the configured workflow steps until all items are processed. The **Loop** component repeatedly executes the configured workflow actions for each item in the provided input collection. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/image-33THR79R.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T17%3A08%3A07Z&se=2026-11-07T18%3A08%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ctiz3prO3t7TbIwWCDNgp0YbWa7gxhtLuRh04mEo%2FJc%3D) Figure: Loop an Item component **User Persona**: Administrator #### Benefits - Automates repetitive tasks - Reduces workflow complexity - Improves consistency #### Key Features - Executes the configured workflow steps for each item in a collection, one item at a time. - Eliminates the need to create duplicate workflow branches for repetitive tasks. - Ensures the loop has valid incoming, body, and **Done** connections before the workflow can be saved - Simplifies workflow design by centralizing repetitive processing within a single component. ### How It Works ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/image-17N5MIBK.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T17%3A08%3A07Z&se=2026-11-07T18%3A08%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ctiz3prO3t7TbIwWCDNgp0YbWa7gxhtLuRh04mEo%2FJc%3D) > [!NOTE] > Example > > A hardware replacement workflow retrieves a list of laptops that require operating system updates. The **Loop on Items** component processes each laptop one at a time, updates the asset record, creates a maintenance task, and then proceeds to the next laptop. After every laptop has been processed, the workflow continues to the notification step. #### Configure Loop on Items To configure Loop on Items, perform the following steps: 1. From the Workflow canvas, drag and drop the Loop on Items component in the Workflow canvas. The Loop on Items component in the Workflow Canvas is displayed. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/image-B1OBL7FK.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T17%3A08%3A07Z&se=2026-11-07T18%3A08%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ctiz3prO3t7TbIwWCDNgp0YbWa7gxhtLuRh04mEo%2FJc%3D) Figure: Loop on Items > [!NOTE] > Notes > > - The **Loop** component requires an array or object collection as input. Select the input by referencing the output of a previous workflow component. The actions within the **Loop** component execute sequentially for each item in the input collection. > - Workflow nodes within a **Loop** can connect only to other nodes inside the same Loop. Connections to nodes outside the Loop are not supported. 2. Configure the **Start** component to pass an input array. The **Loop on Items** component iterates through each item and continues the workflow through the **Done** connection when processing is complete. 3. Right-click Loop on Items component and click Properties. The Loop on Items properties page is displayed. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/image-72X3G82L.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T17%3A08%3A07Z&se=2026-11-07T18%3A08%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ctiz3prO3t7TbIwWCDNgp0YbWa7gxhtLuRh04mEo%2FJc%3D) Figure: Loop on Items - Properties 4. Enter the required details as described in the following table and click **Save Changes**. | Field | Description | | --- | --- | | Loop on Items name | Enter the Loop on Item name in the textbox to be viewed on the component. | | **LOOP CONFIGURATION** | | Maximum Loop Count | Enter or select the loop count. By default, 99 count is displayed. | | Item Source | Specify the array to iterate through: - Select a **workflow variable** to use an array passed during workflow execution. - Alternatively, provide a **static array**. | | Variable Reference | Select the variable from the list. The listed values are displayed based on selected Item Source. | 5. Drag the required workflow components (for example, **Custom Code** or **Notification**) inside the **Loop on Items** container. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/62351b42-cfbd-43ad-8ce1-82b8f455337f/Images/Documentation/image-0RBP3DS8.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T17%3A08%3A07Z&se=2026-11-07T18%3A08%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ctiz3prO3t7TbIwWCDNgp0YbWa7gxhtLuRh04mEo%2FJc%3D) 6.
