# CMDB Discovery Mapping

**Configuration Management** **Database (CMDB**) discovery is the process of populating the CMDB with accurate and up-to-date information about the IT assets in the organization's environment.

The discovery process involves identifying and collecting information about Configuration items (CI)s and their attributes, such as their type, location, relationships with other CIs, and the services they support. This data is then stored in the CMDB to provide a comprehensive view of the IT infrastructure.

CMDB discovery involves direct and indirect scanning of network devices, applications and other asset details. Refer to the illustrations for more about CMDB discovery scanning activity.

CMDB discovery supports various IT management processes like incident management, change management, asset management, and service management. It enables IT teams to make informed decisions, understand the impact of changes, and maintain a more robust and efficient IT environment.

User Persona: Administrator

### Configure CMDB Discovery Mapping

To configure **CMDB Discovery Mapping**, perform the following steps:

1. Select **CMDB** > **CMDB Discovery Mapping**. Click **New** to configure **CMDB Discovery Mapping**.

2. 3. Specify the **Tenant** (ex: Information Technology) from the drop-down list. 4. Click **Category** to submit the configuration. The configured list of **Category** appears as shown below.

Here Switches is selected under Category list.

5. Click **Save** to save the CMDB Discovery Mapping.
