CI Relation Type (Configuration Item Relation Type) is a defined category or classification that describes the nature of the relationship between two Configuration Items (CIs). These relation types are used to represent how different CIs within the CMDB are connected or dependent on each other. They aid in establishing a  clear understanding of the connections and dependencies within an organization's IT infrastructure. 

The following list highlights the benefits of configuring CI Relation Type:

• Dependency mapping - Creates valuable dependency maps for understanding IT relationships.
• Service management - Crucial for effective IT service management and ensuring continuity.

Configure a CI Relation Type

To configure a CI Relation Type, perform the following steps. 

1.    Navigate to Design Studio > Module > CMDB > Configurations > CMDB Configuration > CI Relation Type.

2. Click the New option to create a new CI Relation Type configuration.

Field Description

This table contains the list of fields and their descriptions that are available under the CI Relation Type segment:

Field	Description
Tenant *	Select a Tenant from drop-down. This is a multiselect field. For more information, refer to Tenant.
Inverse Relationship Name	Enter the inverse relationship name in the text box. Info Inverse Relationship Name refers to the name or label given to the reverse or reciprocal relationship between two configuration items. You define not only the primary relationship between two CIs but also how the relationship is perceived from the perspective of the other CI involved.
Relationship Name	Enter the relationship name in the text box. Info Relationship Name refers to the label or name assigned to a specific type of relationship between two configuration items. This name describes the nature of the connection or association between the two CIs.
Description	Describe the relation type in this field.
Active	Select the active checkbox to make the status of CI Relation Type as active.
Change History	Click this icon to check the details of change history of the particular CI Relation type. Check out Change History segment for more information.

Change History

Change History displays a log or record of all the changes made to a particular item, record, or configuration element within the system. It provides a historical record of modifications, including who made the changes, when they were made, and often a description of the change itself.

The Change History segment contains two views namely:

• Timeline View
• Tabular View
