Change Blackout Window refers to a specified period during which changes to the IT environment are restricted or prohibited. 

During Change Blackout Window period, organizations freeze modifications to critical systems to prevent disruptions, especially during peak hours or important operations. These blackout periods are used during maintenance, upgrades, or critical events to maintain stability. 

You can define the blackout periods for a CI or a set of CIs during the maintenance phase of the CI items. The time period during which the blackout is defined is referred to as Freeze Time of CIs. During the Freeze Time, you cannot modify the CIs and the associated CRs.

However, they have a major client who runs a mission-critical application on NovaTech's infrastructure and relies heavily on it for daily operations. This client is entering a busy period where any downtime could result in significant financial losses and damage to their reputation.
Adam can implement a Change Blackout Window to ensure minimal disruption to their client's operation.
He can schedule a Blackout Window for the duration of their client's busiest week, during which no non-essential changes will be made to the infrastructure supporting the client's application.

 

Configure Change Blackout Window

To configure the Change Blackout Window, perform the following steps. 

1.    Navigate to Service Management > CMDB > Manage Configuration Item > Change Blackout Window.

2. Click New to create a new Change Blackout Window configuration. In the configuration page, provide all the required details as shown below.

Field Description

This table contains the list of fields and their descriptions that are available under the Change Blackout Window configuration segment:

Tenant *Select a Tenant from drop-down. 
From and To DateSelect the From and To Date to define the Blackout Window period.
Time ZoneSelect the Time Zone for the Blackout Window.
Selection CriteriaSelect the criteria: All CIs or Specific CIs.
Select CIsChoose the necessary CIs by selecting the checkboxes.
ActiveActivate this configuration by selecting the 'Active' checkbox.
