CMDB Discovery Mapping

Article summary

Configuration Management Database (CMDB) discovery is the process of populating the CMDB with accurate and up-to-date information about the IT assets in the organization's environment.

The discovery process involves identifying and collecting information about Configuration items (CI)s and their attributes, such as their type, location, relationships with other CIs, and the services they support. This data is then stored in the CMDB to provide a comprehensive view of the IT infrastructure.

CMDB discovery involves direct and indirect scanning of network devices, applications and other asset details. Refer to the illustrations for more about CMDB discovery scanning activity.
