Article summary

A form can be created from scratch or customized from an already existing form. 

Starting from scratch allows you to begin with a blank canvas, enabling you to add and arrange the layouts and controls as you prefer. Alternatively, you can utilize the pre-defined templates that provide a ready-made structure and fields on your form, which then you can customize as required.

Let's explore the following use case to create a form from scratch.
Use Case

User Persona: Application Designer

Solution
Application Designer, Sam wants to create new form which should manage and track all incidents raised by users. It should be an interactive form and should include the essential details for troubleshooting and resolution, such as Subject, Description, Caller Name, Address, Email ID, Response SLA, Resolution SLA and so on.

To achieve this functionality, he can create a form named Manage Incidents, with all fields such as Subject, Description, Caller Name, Address, Email ID, Response SLA, and Resolution SLA on the form. As it's a unique form, he will choose the option Start from Scratch

Let's explore the following use case using the existing form!

Use Case

User Persona: Application Designer

Solution
Application Designer, Sam wants to create a form named My Incidents for an Analyst to view the incident details logged by End User. Also, the Analyst should be able to add any additional information if needed along with existing details entered by End User.
There is a form named New Incident for Userwhich captures the information entered by End User while logging an incident. 

To achieve this functionality, he can create a form named My Incidents using already existing form New Incident for User, as both forms have similar details to be showcased.
He can make use of Use Existing Form option to create My Incidents form for an Analyst. He can make any modifications also on existing form as per the additional requirements.


Create Forms

Let's explore the following two ways to create a form.

Create a Form from Scratch

To create a form from the scratch, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Design Studio > select the required Application and Module.

  2. Select the Designer as Form Designer. A Form Designer list page is displayed.

  3.  Click New. The Create a Form page is displayed.

  4.  Click on Start From Scratch option. After that you will be redirected to the General tab, the first stepper of Form Designer.

    Configure your own form by mentioning required field values on Form Designer Details page. Read General Form Details for more information.

Create a Form using an Existing Form

You can reuse an already existing form and make desired changes, such as rearranging the layout or controls, deleting existing controls, and adding new ones as per the requirement. You can select an existing form from either your current module or from a module in a different application.

To create a form using an existing form, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Design Studio > select the required Application and Module.
  2. Select the Designer as Form Designer. A Form Designer list page is displayed.

  3.  Click New. The Create a Form page is displayed.

  4.  Click Use Existing Form option. The template using pop-up window is displayed. You can view all the forms that are created for the selected module.

  5.  Select the required Tenant. It displays the pre-defined forms available under that specific Tenant.

  6. Hover the mouse on the required form. It displays the following two options:
    • Use Form - Select it to create the form based on this template.
    • Preview - Select it to view the selected form in Design Preview pop-up window.

  7.  Click on Use Form option. A copy of the selected form is created. The Form Designer Details page is displayed with General tab - first stepper for Form Designer in editable mode. Customize this existing form as per your requirement.
