Define Characteristics

In the General Properties section, you can enter all the basic information you need to craft a Business Rule. Simple as that!

To create a Business Rule, perform the following steps:

  1. Select Design Studio > Select Module as Incident

  2. Navigate to Designers > Business Rule Designer.
    Select the required Domain and Sub Domain prior to adding the Business Rule.Figure: Business Rule Designer Page

  3.  Click New to add a new Business Rule.


    Add Business Rule page is displayed, requesting for input on the General properties tab.

    The below table describes the fields in the General properties of the Business Rule Designer.
    FieldDescription
    Name*


    Enter the name to be given to the Business Rule. 

    Execution Order*


    Enter a numeric value representing the order in which the rule should be executed. If there are multiple Business Rules with different order number, then the Business Rule with the highest execution order number would be executed first.

    Domain*Select a Domain. This field gets populated based on the previous selection. 
    Tenant*Select one or more Tenants from the drop-down list. This is a multi-select field.
    DescriptionEnter a description about what the business rule will accomplish. 
    Sub Domain*

    Select a Sub Domain from the drop-down list. 

    Sub Domain*

    Select a Sub Domain from the drop-down list. 

    An asterisk (*) represents mandatory field. 

    Active enable this switch to configure the Business Rule as Active. If disabled, the Business Rule stays inactive and will not trigger.

  4.  Click Next.
Let's explore a simple use-case to explain how Execution Order works.

Solution
Consider there are two Business Rules with different execution orders as shown below:

Execution OrderBusiness Rule
100Create an Incident to Work Order record.
102Notify Stakeholders in case of a P1 Incident.

When the Business Rule is executed, it checks for the execution order in which to execute the Business Rules. In this case, the Business Rule with the higher execution order will be executed first, hence, the Business Rule with execution order 102 will be executed first.
