Form Modes

Article summary

Cater to versatility, control and customization with different types of modes for a form. Optimize the data management editable or non-editable format as per the requirement and preferences. Display the static view of records using Read-Only mode. Input new data or update the existing records using Write mode. 

The Application Designer can easily configure the form as Read-Only or Write using the drop-down control Form Mode under first stepper General of Form Designer. A sample screenshot is shown below:



There are following two types of form modes.

  • Read-Only Mode
  • Write Mode 

Read-Only Form 

Read-Only forms provides a view only interface to the End User. The primary purpose of Read mode is to display the information in an organized manner without the ability to modify it. It will just display the information from any other defined data source. Read-Only form can be displayed in form view or list view. 

Let's explore the following use-case for form view!


Use Case

User Persona: Application Designer

Solution
Application Designer, Sam needs to create a popover window that allows the user to view the contact details of the ACME company when the user clicks on the Contact Us button on the Home Page of ACME.
The information on Contact Uswindow should appear in static and non-editable format without any interactive components.  

To achieve this functionality, he needs to create a Popover Form with Form Mode as Read-Only which should appear as soon as the user clicks on the Contact Us button on the Main Form (Home page of ACME).
As the form is in Read-Only mode, the displayed information serves solely as reference in form view, without any need of modifications.

Let's explore the following use-case for list view!


Use Case

User Persona: Application Designer

Solution
Application Designer, Sam needs to create a popover window that allows the user to view the list of Leave History details of any employee of ACME company when the employee clicks on the Leave History button on the Employee Informationpage.

To achieve this functionality, he needs to create a Popover Form Leave History with Form Mode as Read-Only which should appear as soon as the user clicks on the Leave History button on the Main Form (Employee Information Form).
As the form is in Read-Only mode, the displayed information serves solely as reference in list view, without any need of modifications.

Write Form

Write form will allow the user to enter and submit the information. You can view and edit the information.

Use Case

User Persona: Application Designer

Solution
Application Designer, Sam needs to create a popover window that allows the End User to subscribe to the Newsletter of ACME when the user clicks on the Join Newsletter button on the Home Page of ACME.
The End User should be able to modify the entered information if needed.

To achieve this functionality, he needs create a Popover Form Newsletter_Subscription with Form Mode as Write which should appear as soon as the user clicks on the Join Newsletter button on the Main form (Home page of ACME).
As the form is in Write mode, the End User will be able to enter the information such as Email Id and can modify it as well if needed.
