Software License Mapping in IT Asset Management refers to the process of associating software licenses with specific instances of software installations or usage within an organization's IT environment.
This mapping is crucial for tracking and managing software assets effectively. The goal is to align the number of purchased software licenses with the actual installations or usage, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and preventing issues such as over-licensing or under-licensing.

Use Case User Persona: Administrator | Solution |
NovaTech recently expanded its software portfolio, acquiring new licenses for a variety of applications. The IT team is now tasked with ensuring that these licenses are optimally utilized, avoiding overages, and maintaining compliance with licensing agreements. | Sandra, the {{variable.Role - Administrator}}, can leverage the Software License Mapping configuration. She can track software usage, and optimize license allocation based on requirements. This configuration involves the selection of a Publisher and License Name along with linking various Software Assets to their respective licenses. |
Configure Software License Mapping
To configure Software License Mapping, perform the following steps:
- Navigate to Design Studio > Asset Management Module > Configurations > Configurations > Software License Mapping.
- On the Software License Mapping List page, click New to create a new configuration.

Figure: Software License Mapping Details page - Link dropdown - Software Master option leads to the Link Software Master pop-up. Select the required Software(s) and click Link.

Field Description
This table contains the list of fields and their descriptions that are available under the Software License Mapping page:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Tenant * | Select the desired Tenant from the list. This is a mandatory field. For more information, refer to Tenant. |
Publisher | Displays the list of available Software Publishers. |
License Name | Displays the list of licenses available for the selected publishers. |
Link / De-Link | Click the Link & De-Link option to link or delink the selected software(s). |
After saving the configuration, it will promptly appear on the Software License Mapping List page. Return to the Software License Mapping List page to review the most recent configuration record.
