Article summary

Empower your business with a versatile platform that adapts to your needs and unleashes your app's full potential!

Platform topology refers to the arrangement and structure of the various components and services within an IT infrastructure platform. It involves designing and organizing the different elements of the platform in a way that supports efficient and effective service delivery, management, and maintenance. The use of IT Service Management (ITSM) principles and practices can greatly assist in designing a platform topology that aligns with the organization's goals and requirements.

The purpose of the Platform is to meet the requirements of a customer. The scale of customers ranges from small customers, conglomerates, and small managed service providers (MSPs), to big MSPs.

Platform Components

In a comprehensive platform of various components work synergistically to streamline operations and enhance overall efficiency. These components are organized serving a specific purpose within the IT ecosystem.

The core components of the platform are as follows:

Domain

A Domain is the highest entity under which you can configure other platform components. By default, there is only one Global Domain. To configure refer to Domain.

Note
The first Domain to be configured will always be a Global Domain and once the Global Domain is configured it cannot be deactivated. There should be at least one Active Global Domain on the Platform.

Sub Domain

A Sub Domain is the second Platform component in the hierarchy, it is configured within a Domain. One Domain can comprise single or multiple Sub Domains with only one Global configuration and multiple local configurations.  A Global Sub Domain can be configured within a Global Domain only. To configure refer to Sub Domain.

Example
A Global Domain named Novatech can comprise two Sub Domains named NovaTech Operation Services (Global Sub Domain) and NovaTech Motor Operations (Local Sub Domain).

Department

A Department is aligned to a Department Group which is configured within the scope of a Sub Domain and Domain. One Department Group can comprise multiple Departments. To configure refer to Department.

Example
A Department Group named NovaTech HR comprises two Departments named NovaTech Payroll and NovaTech Insurance.
