Article summary

The toolbox elements contain multiple items like charts, grids, maps, filters, and layouts that can be added to the dashboard. After the elements are added you can bind data to the elements.

The dashboard canvas is displayed below.

Field Description

This table contains the list of items and their descriptions that are available under the Toolbox elements:

FieldDescription
Common
Grid

A Grid represents data in tabular form. It typically consists of rows and columns where each cell contains specific data or information. It provides a convenient way to present large amounts of information and enables users to filter, sort, and manipulate the data within the dashboard.

Pivot

A Pivot can be used to reorganize and summarize data based on different dimensions or variables. Pivoting in a report dashboard enables users to easily summarize, aggregate, and drill down into data, making it a powerful tool for exploring and presenting information in a meaningful and customizable way.

Chart

A chart refers to a graphical representation or visual depiction of data. It provides a visual summary of information, allowing users to quickly grasp patterns, trends, and relationships within the data.

Tree Map

A tree map is a chart used in the report dashboard to display hierarchical data using nested rectangles. In a tree map, the overall rectangle represents the entire dataset, and it is divided into smaller rectangles or "tiles" that represent different subsets or categories of the data.

Pies

A pie chart is used to represent data as a circular graph. A pie chart divides a whole into segments or "slices" that are proportional to the values they represent.

Scatter Chart

A scatter chart is used to display the relationship between two numeric variables. It represents data points as individual markers on a Cartesian coordinate system.

Cards

A card is used to represent concise data or key metrics in a visually appealing manner. Cards in a report dashboard are designed to provide quick access to important information at a glance.

Gauges

A gauge is a visual element used to represent data as a visual indicator on a scale. They resemble traditional analog gauges or meters that measure and display values within a defined range.

Text Box

A text box is a graphical element or component used in a report dashboard to display and present textual information. It is typically a rectangular area or container where users can enter, edit, or view text content.

Image

An image in the report dashboard represents a visual element that is used to display pictures, graphics, or illustrations within the dashboard. It is a static representation of visual content that enhances the presentation and communication of information.

Bound Image

A bound image refers to an image that is dynamically linked or associated with specific data within the dashboard. It is typically connected to a data source or a field that determines the content or source of the image.

Maps

Geo Point Map

A geo point map, also known as a geographic point map or location map, is a type of visualization used in a reporting dashboard to display data based on geographical coordinates. It represents data points on a map corresponding to specific locations or coordinates.

Choropleth Map

By using a choropleth map in a report dashboard, users can gain insights into regional variations, make comparisons, and uncover trends or correlations related to the data being presented. It provides a visually appealing and intuitive way to display geographic data and enhance data-driven decision-making.

Bubble Map

A bubble map, also known as a bubble chart or bubble graph, is a type of visualization used in a report dashboard to represent data using bubbles or circles on a map or coordinate system. It combines the elements of a scatter plot and a geographic map to convey information.

Pie Map

A pie chart or pie map is used to represent data as a circular graph. A pie chart divides a whole into segments or "slices" that are proportional to the values they represent.

Filter

Range Filter

A range filter is a user interface component or feature that allows users to select a range of values within a specified range or interval. For example, a date or time range such as this week, this month this year can be selected.

Combo Box

A combo box known as a combination box, is a graphical user interface (GUI) control that combines the features of a drop-down list and a text input field. It allows users to choose an option from a predefined list or enter a custom value if the desired option is not available in the list.

List Box

A list box is a graphical user interface (GUI) control that presents a list of items from which users can make selections. It typically displays a vertical list of options that can be scrolled through, and users can select one or more items from the list.

Tree View

A tree view is a graphical user interface (GUI) control that displays hierarchical data in a tree-like structure. It represents a parent-child relationship between items, where each item can have one or more child items. It represents a hierarchical structure, allowing users to navigate and interact with the data.

Date Filter

A date filter is a mechanism or feature that allows users to refine or narrow down data based on a specific date or time criteria.

Layout

Group

The Group feature allows combining data elements together based on specific criteria to provide a consolidated view or summary of information.

Ungroup

The ungroup feature allows users to revert to the original or ungrouped view of the data, where individual data elements are no longer combined or consolidated based on specific criteria.

Binding Data

The above listed fields in the toolbox need to be dragged and dropped to the design canvas. This creates an empty dashboard item, which you can configure.
Below is the Card element added to the dashboard canvas.

Drag and drop the columns to change the data binding order.

Click the Filters icon to add any condition in the text box to filter column values.

Click the Delete icon if you wish to delete the item.

Export To

After the data item is configured on the dashboard canvas, the export to option is available to export the data card. The available options to export are PDF, image, or Excel.
Figure: Export to

  • PDF - Click PDF option to export the data item to PDF format.
  • Image - Click Image option to export the data item to image format.
  • Excel - Click Excel option to export the data item to excel format.

Inspect Data

The inspect data option is available after the data item is configured on the dashboard canvas.
Figure: Inspect data

The inspect data opens a window that displays raw or aggregated data.

  • Aggregated data - It displays the aggregated data retrieved from the dashboard item's data storage.
  • Raw data - It displays the underlying raw data from the dashboard item.

Let's further explore the configuration of various data sources.
