Automation Scheduler is a powerful feature within Service Automation designed to manage and execute workflows automatically based on predefined time conditions. By leveraging the Automation Scheduler, you can ensure that crucial tasks and processes are handled without manual intervention, promoting efficiency and consistency in your operations.
What is an Automation Scheduler?
An Automation Scheduler is a system component that triggers workflows based on a set schedule or specific time conditions. Once configured, it initiates the execution of workflows automatically, ensuring that tasks are performed at the right time, whether it's a one-time event or a recurring job. This is particularly useful for processes that need to run on a regular basis or at specific intervals.
Key Features
Automatic Workflow Execution: Launch workflows automatically at designated times or intervals.
Time-Based Triggers: Define specific schedules and conditions for workflow execution.
Repetitive Jobs: Schedule recurring tasks to reduce manual workload.
Note
Scheduler does not trigger ITSM-based workflows. ITSM workflows, which involve creating incidents, service requests, or work orders, require different mechanisms for initiation.
Scheduler triggers are based on the executions of workflows.
Why is an Automation Scheduler Important?
In today’s fast-paced and dynamic organizational environments, managing complex business processes effectively is crucial. Many processes involve multiple systems and dependencies, making manual execution impractical. The Automation Scheduler addresses these challenges by:
Enhancing Efficiency: Automate repetitive tasks and schedules to minimize manual intervention and human error.
Ensuring Consistency: Execute workflows reliably and consistently, following the defined schedules and conditions.
Optimizing Resource Use: Allocate resources more effectively by scheduling jobs during off-peak hours or according to demand.
Benefits
Streamlined Operations: Automate routine and repetitive tasks for both infrastructure and applications, ensuring that processes are executed efficiently.
Increased Productivity: Free up human resources by handling scheduled tasks automatically, allowing staff to focus on more strategic activities.
Improved Reliability: Ensure that workflows are executed on time, reducing the risk of missed or delayed tasks.
Enhanced Flexibility: Reuse and manage automation workflows across multiple schedules, providing a versatile approach to automation management.
Scheduler Types
There are 2 types of schedulers
Custom
An administrator or user can set up a custom scheduler. This scheduler will initiate the workflow automatically at predetermined times as configured.
Standard
Standard schedulers are pre-configured in the system by default and cannot be edited or modified.
