Asset Purpose refers to the intended function or use of a particular asset within an organization. It defines why the asset exists and how it contributes to the overall operations and goals of the organization.
Asset Purpose can vary depending on the asset type and the organization's specific needs. For example, a piece of manufacturing equipment may have the purpose of producing goods, while a software license may have the purpose of supporting business operations.
Let's explore the following use case.

Nova Retail wants to keep track of its inventory of electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets. Configure Asset Purpose
To configure Asset Purpose, perform the following steps:
- Navigate to Design Studio > Asset Management Module > Configurations > Asset Masters > Asset Purpose. The Asset Purpose List page is displayed with already configured records.
Click New to configure a new Asset Purpose.

The saved configuration will be displayed on the List page.
Field Description
This table contains the list of fields and their descriptions that are available under the Asset Purpose page:
Field | Description |
Tenant | Select the Tenant for which you wish to configure the Asset Usage type. |
Purpose | Specify the purpose of the asset for which you are defining its use. |
Sort Order | Choose the sorting order for displaying or listing Asset Purpose records. |
Default | Select the Default check box to set the particular record as the default display. |
Active | Select the Active check box to set the particular configuration's status as active. |
