Unveil the threads of IT connectivity in CMDB with CI Relation Type!

CI Relation Type (Configuration Item Relation Type) is a defined category or classification that describes the nature of the relationship between two Configuration Items (CIs). These relation types are used to represent how different CIs within the CMDB are connected or dependent on each other. They aid in establishing a  clear understanding of the connections and dependencies within an organization's IT infrastructure.

The following list highlights the benefits of configuring CI Relation Type:

  • Dependency mapping - Creates valuable dependency maps for understanding IT relationships.
  • Service management - Crucial for effective IT service management and ensuring continuity.
  • Impact analysis - Facilitates better change management and incident resolution by identifying dependencies.
  • Resource allocation - Identify critical, interdependent CIs for efficient IT resource allocation.

User Persona: Application Administrator

Let's explore the following use-case.

Sandra is tasked to manage all the different entities in this infrastructure to manage IT services effectively.
Sandra can achieve this system by configuring CI Relation types. This involves a few crucial steps such as identification, categorization, recording of detailed attributes, establishing CI Relation types, and creating dependency mapping.
This process ensures service continuity and efficient resource allocation through dependency mapping and understanding of CI relationships.
